Philippians 3: 13b NIV ‘..forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead.’











Straining

–verb (used with object)
· to draw tight or taut, esp. to the utmost tension; stretch to the full: to strain a rope.
· to exert to the utmost: to strain one's ears to catch a sound.

· to pass (gravy, for example) through a filtering agent such as a strainer.
· to draw off or remove by filtration: strained the pulp from the juice.
[ not totally sure of exact relevance of these 2 meanings to the context given in scripture

here, but felt it was another real aspect in life of ‘straining forward’.]

· great or excessive effort or striving after some goal, object, or effect.
· a task, goal, or effect accomplished only with great effort
